Portraits have always been considered as one of the most elegant, classical and sentimental gifts you can give to others or even yourself. Portraits capture moments that you want to remember for all eternity, whether it concerns a special person in your life, your favorite childhood spot or even your two year old German shepherd!

One of the most common subjects of portraits is babies or infants. Babies have a certain ubiquitous charm that affects just about everyone. If you’re wondering whether a baby portrait is a good choice as a gift, here are some tips you might want to know.
Why give them a baby portrait?

There are a lot of reasons why you many, if not all, people would appreciate receiving a baby portrait of themselves. Isn’t there a proverb that says how a child lives in each and every one of us? It would no doubt give someone pleasure to have a baby portrait of themselves because it could let them remember their favorite childhood memories.

Gifting mothers a portrait of their newborn babies is also a very special and well-thought of gift. A mother’s love for her child is one of the greatest types of love in this world and any mom would be pleased to have a likeness of her infant. In fact, even dads could appreciate this kind of gift because parents have this tendency to see their children as kids forever.

Siblings with closer-than-usual-bonds would also appreciate baby portraits as a gift. Obviously, as they’re already old, you can simply use a photo to have their portraits based on.

How to go about purchasing baby portraits?
First, try to look for an artist or gallery that coincides with your tastes or preferences. Secondly, you also have to decide whether you want the baby portrait based on photos or done live. Baby portraits done live may mean that you can’t use the baby portrait as a surprise gift. You also may have to pay more than the normal costs as you would require the artist to spend several hours, maybe even days, at the recipient’s home.

Secondly, drawing a portrait of a baby is not easy work as you can’t make babies understand that it’s imperative they stay still so the artist would be able to sketch their exact likeness.
Lastly, never forget that a beautiful frame can only enhance a baby portrait! Frames of all sizes and designs are available in the market so you have a lot to choose from. If you have an idea already where the baby portrait would probably be hung, you could match the frame with the color theme of the room.
