So to be able to prevent you form having any tantrums, you might as well see your work in the point of view of the judges or of any other art critiques. These are the following things that people consider when evaluating your work. Judges at art shows usually look at these factors: 1. Completeness – makes sure that the painting is coherent and all aspects are closely worked in. 2. Integrity – the work really comes from within the artist’s beliefs and his passion. What he truly believes and feels is expressed in his art work. 3. Originality – have some uniqueness in his creation. 4. Vitality – being bale to put risks and is deep in emotion 5. Depth – even if viewed a hundred times, the painting is still unique and fun to look at. 6. Intriguing –leaves something to be imagined for the viewer 7. Significance – the work contributes some values and teaching to the viewers about the world’s values, etc. 8. Quality – the design and execution of the painting is great. 9. Innovative – possesses something different for his type of genre. Those are the criteria that judges based your work on, but to be successful, you must be able to see and critique your own work. Try basing the critique of your work on this list. 1. lines a. Are the lines able to articulate the form of your object properly or entirely? b. Are the lines organized and they are put properly where they really belong? c. The lines must also show that the brush was under your complete control, this may be seen by lines that are not crooked. d. The compositional elements should be closely integrated If you can’t accept that your painting has gotten an “x” among all of these in the checklist. Maybe you should just try to be a judge rather than an artist, and you can take out your frustrations on artist that are good by telling them their paintings really suck too.
