Selling Your Paintings Through a Gallery PDF Print E-mail
You may have a collection of artwork at home that you treasure, but like everyone, you will eventually want to sell a masterpiece or two. Perhaps the easiest way to do this is through a gallery.

To some oil painting is not only a way to relax and unwind. To them they consider oil painting as their livelihood, especially those who are talented enough to create their own masterpieces. Even if they do decide to sell their paintings it will not be an easy task to achieve, especially to those who are amateurs and not well known. They would have to go through a very long grapevine just to sell their paintings.

This will be very disappointing especially for new artists. Because even thought hey spend a whole lot of time giving their full effort on their painting, it still might not sell. For artist to consider painting as a business, they would have to understand it is a risky business. They would be lucky to sell 50% of their paintings and would be rare if they sold all of it. If you would really like to continue your passion towards oil painting, it would require great sacrifice.

Here are some ways that the artists usually sell his or her paintings.

Galleries:
If you are starting out as an amateur, it is best to start off in a gallery. However it is not that easy to convince the gallery owner to post your painting unless you are well known. This is beacsue galleries know what would sell best, and what can be achieved in private deals afterwards.

To be able to enter your art work in the gallery it is best to bring a CV. People who have impressive CV’s has got better chances for their work to be included in the exhibit. If you just walk in with your painting in a portfolio, you may have a hard time and just not be entertained. They are professional institutions that would require ort expect a letter of inquiry and brief records of accomplishments.

Then if you have been accepted to display your art in the exhibit, you will only be requires to have 2 paintings. You will be given the chance to sell your painting 3 times before you finally get kicked out. They practice the 3 strikes and you’re out rule.

If you would want to still sell your painting and become a star. The gallery will then make you sign an exclusivity contract. The gallery will be expecting their commissions when they sell your paintings. This could mean a lot of deductions on your part. It is not easy to achieve this exclusivity or representation, but can easily be destroyed when trust has been broken.
