Types of Paint Brushes and Caring for them

ART-icles

Aside from the oil paint you obviously need brushes as well to complete your picture. Unless you’re using your body or fingers for painting than reading this article will prove meaningless. Or you have finally decided that using brushes rather than your tooth brush is better. This article will tell you the kind of brushes for different situations and the proper care of brushes.

There are two kinds of brushes each with a different purpose. There is a stiff brush that is used to handle most painting tasks. Stiff brushes are made of hog bristle and come in three shapes. They are round, flat and filbert. To begin get a small range sized brush. An acceptable alternative for natural article brushes are brushes that have synthetic bristles. Soft brushes are less accommodating, because the substitutes for soft brushes are less satisfactory. The best one to use is the sable soft brushes. To be able to blend paint in a smooth way on the canvas a fan-head brush may be needed.

Since brushes are expensive, you would not want it to be damaged, especially the sable brushes. So the brushes you have need to be looked after very well. Try to remember that you would not need a new paint brush to perform better, especially if you really lack the talent in painting anyway. Here are some ways to prolong the life of your brush.

1. Do not use brushes to mix paint and instead use painting knives to mix paint.
2. The hairs or bristles will be permanently bent out of shape when the brushes are pointed down in jars or containers.
3. The ferrules of the brushes will be clogged if the brushed is used as a scoop. The handling property of the brush will be spoiled if the paint is not cleaned out.
4. Try to think what would be the correct amount of paint and apply according to the needs only.
5. The proper way to handle a brush is carefully or briskly, holds the brush some distance from the tip with the right pressure and action.
6. When finished painting during the day, always clean the brush as soon as possible. The proper way to wash it using turps followed by normal soap and water. You can also wash the brush in turps and give a final rinsing in turpentine.
7. If you are rich and have no problem in flaunting money you can wash the brush in milk. It must be properly and gently shaped, allowed to dry, tips up for a couple of days.

By knowing the proper brushes and taking care of it properly you might not end up being a Da Vinci. But just remember that painting is meant for you to have fun and maybe if you can be able to slowly develop it into a great talent later on.
